Here is the trailer for Street Dreams.
Derrick Cabrera, like all skateboarders, dreams of being sponsored one day. He has all the talent in the world to make it happen but some major roadblocks to overcome before he can make the dream a reality. He is receiving pressure from all sides, his parents are stressing him because he is failing in school, his girlfriend thinks he is a loser, his best friend has become his rival because he is better than him. Things come to a head after Derrick gets arrested and a fight ensues with his father resulting in him running away from home. He does the only thing he knows how to do and opts to follow his dream to the Tampa Am contest, one of the only ways an unknown skater can get noticed.

The Skateable Ramp House
Monday, March 30th, 2009 | skateboarding | 1 Comment
This house, designed by Athanasia Psaraki, was designed as a “skateable habitat”. The house is filled with curves and bowls as the floors meet the walls in many of the rooms. Wouldn’t you love to have a house like this?

Here is a great video by Youth Group for the song “Forever Young”. According to Wikipedia, the music video includes “footage from the early-1970s Australian youth television program GTK, showing Australia’s first skateboarding contest being held at the Coca-Cola factory in Frenchs Forest, New South Wales in 1975.” #

Foreclosures, more drained pools for skateboarding
Monday, December 29th, 2008 | skateboarding | Comments Off
With the housing market crash and the huge numbers of foreclosures, people are naturally looking for the silver lining. Some have found it.
Many skateboarders are accepting the risk involved with trespassing in order to take advantage of the boon in drained and abandoned swimming pools brought on by foreclosures.
Lords of Dogtown (2005)
Monday, December 8th, 2008 | film | No Comments
I can’t believe I haven’t watched his movie until now. Lords of Dogtown is quite an interesting movie, and maybe even more so for a skateboarder. The movies is based on the Z-boys who are often credited with popularizing skateboarding and the skateboarding culture. The Z-Boys perfect their style in the empty swimming pools of unsuspecting suburban homeowners, and turned skateboarding into a more “vertical” sport than it was at that time. They became pioneers in the sport and eventually legends.
Aside from the little history lesson, the movie itself was pretty interesting too, and well-acted by some actors you may have heard of — Emile Hirsch, Rebecca De Mornay, Michael Angarano, Johnny Knoxville, and Heath Ledger.
If you haven’t seen Lords of Dogtown and you are a skateboarder, or if you’re just interested in a little skateboarding history, I urge you to pick up a copy of Lords of Dogtown and watch it.
Deckstools – Cool skateboard furniture
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008 | skateboard decks | No Comments
Here is a very cool idea by designers Jason and Adam Podlaski. They are making furniture out of old broken skateboard decks. You can even send in you old broken decks and have them create a deckstool with a bit of sentimental value :)
